However, there has been a criticism of the name, with complaints suggesting the title lacks aspiration and doesn’t offer much vision. There will be many people who argue that a name doesn’t matter too much and ultimately, the residents will come up with names and terms that define the area.
Other suggestions for the name of the area included Stockport Downtown Development West, Stockport New Town and Stockport Rejuvenation. Those hoping for a change in the title will take confidence in the fact that a trading name may be utilised later following a wider marketing strategy for the area.
