STOCKPORT ROADWORKS IMPACTING ON LOCAL LIFE

Stockport Roadworks Impacting On Local Life

While it is always good to see progress being made in Stockport, for many local residents, the continual changes to the town bring a lot of hassle and heartache. Local media has been filled with stories of people complaining about work being undertaken of late and the story of Rachel Whyment and her displeasure about work being undertaken on the Manchester Airport Relief Road is certainly enough to stop you in her tracks,.

Rachel has said that work on the new road is being undertaken through the night, with diggers operating outside of her property at 3 in the morning. The work is being undertaken in Hazel Grove in Stockport and the work is allegedly shaking Rachael’s house in the middle of the night. It has been reported that the installation of ducting and road surfacing work has been carried out in the early hours of the day and that heavy machinery has been operational at these times.

Complaints have been raised with Stockport Council

A complaint has also been made to Stockport Council stating that the work has damaged a stone wall and a pathway on the property but so far, the local council hasn’t dealt with these complaints. The council has made an apology for the disturbance carried out by the work but they have cited the fact that they want to minimise disruption to the A6 and this is why work is taking place during the night. The council also states that they have informed all local residents of the work schedule for the roadwork being carried out.

The road, which stretches to 10km, is expected to open in spring of 2018. The road will connect the A6, from Hazel Grove, to the M56 via the A555. Given that Racheal has been greatly inconvenienced by the work, you would expect her to hold a grudge against the work that is being carried out but it seems as though she is in favour of the work that is being undertaken. This is an example of someone knowing that work will bring about positive changes to the community in the long run but that the short term is very unpleasant.

This is often the case and many people in Stockport have raised concerns about the amount of work that is being carried out in the town. It is good to see that Stockport is on the up and that there are so many changes taking place but when there is a high volume of disruption to everyday life, it is easy to see why so many people are angry.

Many different issues impact on the Stockport property market and if you want to discuss any of these matters, we are more than happy to help.
