STOCKPORT PROPERTY MARKET CONTINUING TO EVOLVE

Stockport Property Market Continuing To Evolve

The face of Stockport has changed considerably in recent times. Developments and improvements work may have caused short-term inconvenience, but there is hope for genuine long-term improvements in the area. At Spencer Harvey, we take immense pride in how the local area has developed, and if you want to stay in touch with the local housing market, we are here to ensure you are fully informed.

It is important affordable housing is developed in Stockport, and it is good to see over 100 affordable homes being lined up for the area.

Affordable homes are on their way in Stockport

Plans that will deliver 130 affordable homes in Stockport look likely to be approved. The plans are centred on Edward Street, with Bowker Sadler Architecture lined up to oversee the scheme. Currently, there is a snooker club on the land, but this is set to be demolished.

The snooker club would be replaced with an eight-storey building which will host 117 two-bedroom properties and 16 one-bedroom apartments.  Funding has been provided to enable the Guinness Partnership to offer affordable housing.

The planning statement submitted to Stockport Council states; “It is acknowledged that the authority's housing policies are considered to be out of date due to a lack of five-year housing land supply. Therefore, the weight given to the proposed homes is considered to be significant.”

As with most projects, there have been concerns, but approval has been recommended.

A familiar face will welcome a fresh start

There will also be a change to a familiar landmark in Stockport as another step in the transformation of the Tatton Cinema in Gatley has occurred. The cinema has been empty for close to 20 years, but thanks to the work of Stockport Homes, affordable homes are on the way.

The organisation bought the premises two years ago and the first seven homes are now available to buy off-plan. These will be two-bedroom homes and there will be a communal garden at the premises. The apartments will be priced at £88,750 to £107,600; based on 50% ownership.

When work on the development is complete, it will consist of two buildings, with “Tatton Place” being the shared ownership area and “Picture House”, which is scheduled to be rental accommodation for peopled aged 55 and older. The art-deco façade of the building has been retained, and this will feature in the finished development.

With convenient transport links to the centre of Manchester, and significant developments taking place, Stockport is the ideal place to buy, live or invest.
