STOCKPORT DEVELOPMENT WORK BRINGS NEW OPPORTUNITIES

Stockport Development Work Brings New Opportunities

It is hardly news to talk about housing development work taking place in Stockport. It appears every week or fortnight there is something new to highlight or discuss when it comes to housing in the local area. As Stockport property specialists, we are very pleased about this and at Spencer Harvey, we believe the innovative work being carried out at the site of a former hospital will be of considerable benefit to many people.

The work is the latest in the Barnes Village development in Cheadle. This phase is being undertaken after the developer, Henley Homes Barnes Village, managed to obtain a £14.6 million finance deal. Natwest is the company who has provided this funding, but they are not the only big name involved with the project.

A familiar name is part of the drive to change Stockport

This is down to the fact that Fred Done, of Betfred fame, is involved in the HHBVL. This is a joint venture between the man who has launched a thousand betting slips and Henley Homes. The work being carried out will lead to 84 new homes at the Barnes Village development. In total, this will see 155 new homes being added to Stockport, which is great news for many people in the community.

Given that HHBL have secured planning permission to convert a former hospital which held a Grade II listed status, there have been some complaints and concerns. The initial work led to the creation of 38 apartments and townhouses and the new work will see seven townhouses, all a new-build nature, and 117 family homes being added to the site which will span 17 acres.

Work is taking place across a lengthy period

The initial work on the project was completed in 2017, with most of the hospital conversion work taking place at this time. The construction work has been carried out by Henley Homes PLC.

Steve Marsh is a director of HHBVL and he released a statement, saying; “Our goal at Barnes Village is to restore an iconic and important local building and create a sustainable new community, centred around well-designed contemporary homes. NatWest helped us with the first phase of the scheme and we are pleased they have returned to help us with phase two.”

While some people will say that Natwest have merely made a commercial decision, and they wouldn’t have provided funding if they didn’t believe this development would be a success, the company is claiming to be heavily involved in the process.

At Spencer Harvey, we care about the local community and we are delighted to see Stockport on the rise.
