NOISY NEIGHBOURS MAKING HOME LIFE HELL?

Noisy Neighbours Making Home Life Hell?

There are many things that can impact on the quality of your home life but if you have noisy neighbours, you may not enjoy spending time at your home. It is reasonable to expect some noise on occasions but if the noise is extremely loud and consistent, you need to know what you can do to resolve the situation. If possible, a swift and amicable solution is of benefit to all parties and the National Association of Estate Agents has provided a number of tips to help you resolve any issues you have with your neighbours.

At Spencer Harvey, we are a NAEA member and we are more than happy to pass on these tips to you. Hopefully you don’t have any problems with your neighbours in Stockport but if you do, consider taking these steps.

Some of the most common problems include:

  • Loud and noisy dogs
  • Loud television or music
  • DIY activities
  • Alarms going off
  • Shouting and arguments

The first step is to speak directly to your neighbour and raise your concerns. You want to say this in as friendly a tone as possible, there is no point in being confrontational at the start and it may be that your neighbour didn’t realise the impact they had on your life. Hopefully bringing the problem to their attention will see them stop or modify their behaviour.

Seek external help if required

If speaking directly to your neighbour doesn’t see the matter resolved, you should look to speak to the Citizens Advice Bureau or the local Council. They should be able to provide you with practical advice on how to deal with the matter, and they may even be in a position where they can provide you with a mediator in an attempt to resolve the matter.

If the issues are persistent you will find that recording the noise and making a log of all of the instances, including the time and date, will provide you with a good starting point in presenting your case. If you speak with your neighbour, be sure to keep a record of these conversations too.

The Environmental Health Department may be able to help

If the problem persists, you should consider involving the local Environmental Health Department as they have an obligation to carry out “all reasonable steps” to investigate the complaint. At a final resort, legal action can be considered but this can be costly and lead to a complete breakdown of relationships between you and your neighbour.

A noisy neighbour can have a bad impact on your home life, but it is good to know that there are people around you can talk to. When it comes to Stockport property chat, you will find that Spencer Harvey is always available. Feel free to give us a phone on 0161 480 8888 or send us an email at info@spencerharvey.co.uk.
