MORE PROPERTY PLANS APPROVED IN STOCKPORT

More Property Plans Approved In Stockport

More good news for the property market in Stockport comes with the fact that proposals for 144 new homes in the area has been granted. Lane End is the developer behind the plans to convert the Battersby Hat Works, located in Offerton, and Stockport Council have granted planning permission.

There will be a considerable amount of work in this project at Offerton Industrial Estate with some buildings being demolished. There will also be redevelopment of two buildings on the site, so it really will be all change when it comes to the look of the local area when the project is completed.

A range of homes are being introduced to Stockport

The condition of the building has been stated as “unusually intact” and there will be 44 homes introduced into the former hat works. This will be broken down into 16 apartments, 15 houses and there will also be 13 mews homes. Anyone keen to see some of the original features retained will be pleased to hear that the water tower will remain in place.

In addition to the new homes being added to the former hat works, there will also be 99 new build homes added to the area. This will feature 48 two-bedroom properties, 33 three-bed properties and there will also be 11 four-bedroom properties attached to the project. In addition to these offerings will be seven mews houses which will have two bedrooms.

The work is being carried out in partnership with Stockport Homes with 55 of the properties being placed on to the market for a straightforward sale. There will be 10 properties set aside for affordable rent and there will be 79 properties made available for shared ownership. This will hopefully increase the opportunity for people to buy the property in the area.

Given that the site is still being used as commercial, there will be a loss of employment land to the area, which isn’t the best news, but there have been doubts expressed about the suitability of the area for commercial development, so residential development is probably the best option.

There have been previous plans for the area which hoped to create 149 units but these have been slightly amended to create the plans that have been approved.

The Managing Director of Lane End, Richard Harrison, released a statement saying; “We are delighted with the planning decision and are looking forward to breaking ground on this iconic scheme, our third large scale development for Stockport Homes in the local area.”
