MORE JOBS HEADING FOR STOCKPORT?

More Jobs Heading For Stockport?

A major Stockport development is on the cards that could see over 2,000 jobs heading to the area and a public consultation has taken place. The consultation was scheduled for Thursday the 14th of June and while this date was pencilled in for many people, after all, it was the opening day of the World Cup, it was a date that had immense importance to the local community. Stockport is changing and the more jobs that are brought to the area, the better and at Spencer Harvey, we are keen to see the area develop anyway that we can.

The plans have been put forward by Quorum, a property developer, who has proposed an extension of the Bredbury Industrial Estate. Currently, there are already more than 100 businesses operating in the estate, but the extension will create space for many firms and of course, many more jobs. This is exactly what we are keen to see in Stockport and the impact on the local jobs and property market would be positive if these plans come to fruition.

Considerable investment is the key to success

If the plans come to the fore, there will be an £80m investment in the local area and there will be 1.25m sq.ft of space which is being allocated to manufacturing, e-commerce and logistics firms. These are industries which are on the up now so their appearance in the local economy would be warmly welcomed.

The development company behind the plans believe that the proposals will lead to further employment opportunities arising. It is hoped that there will be 300 jobs created for the construction section of the project and then 2,214 jobs will arise when the Bredbury Gateway is up and running.

Council will benefit from increased rates

With respect to the impact on the Stockport economy, it is hoped that the plans will provide a boost of £130.1 m every single year. This would be a fantastic return and one that many local people and councillors are backing. There is also an expectation that business rates will benefit by £3.5m every year when all the units are occupied.

Other plans that are being lined up include a cycle link, a pedestrian link, both connecting with Stockport Sports Village and there will also be car parking space for more than 130 vehicles.

The public exhibition was undertaken to allow the local community the chance to review the plans and see what could be coming their way. A Director of Quorum, Paul Cook, released a statement, saying; “We are delighted to be showing another vote of confidence in Greater Manchester with our plans to invest £80m into Stockport and create over 2,500 new jobs in the local economy. Whilst Stockport has shown that it is open for business, there is a shortage of deliverable and sustainable sites for future strategic employment development in the borough, which risks the area missing out on investment and job creation to elsewhere.”

At Spencer Harvey, we care about the local community and we are delighted to see Stockport on the rise.
