METROLINK CONNECTIVITY WILL BOOST STOCKPORT

Metrolink Connectivity Will Boost Stockport

Good transport options help local businesses and make an area more attractive for people to live in. Therefore, the plans to extend the Metrolink to Stockport is pleasing for the community. It feels as though there is no shortage of improvements, developments and upgrade work being carried out in Stockport at the moment, but this would be one of the best developments in the local area. There is no confirmation that the Metrolink will be extended to Stockport, but the local council is pushing hard for this transport connectivity.

There have been mock-up images showing what Stockport will look like if the plan comes off and many people have been left impressed. While there is already a reliable train service to Manchester from Stockport, and a regular bus service, the Metrolink would add another dependable option, so this should be viewed as a positive addition if the plans come to fruition.

Plans aim to bring old and new together in Stockport

The plans for the new transport interchange show that there is a “green roof” and the tram lines will be located alongside the viaduct. This is a wonderful way to combine the old and the new in Stockport and the upgrade on the bus station is probably long overdue. Stockport is changing the way it looks and we are saying goodbye to many familiar locations and buildings from the past. This will be viewed as a sad part of modern life for many people but there is no denying that progress brings new opportunities and Stockport is likely to reap the rewards for many years with these changes.

The transport upgrades and plans have been in place for an extended period of time and there has been backing for Stockport council. In 2014, Stockport council received £42m from the Government, and this money has been put to effective use and will hopefully be put to even better use in the years to come.

New homes are on the agenda in Stockport

Of course, while transport options are essential, it is new property developments that most people will feel excited about in Stockport. Alongside the Metrolink plans is a proposal to develop 196 homes in an apartment block, in a project that is said to cost close to £40m. This development is also set to include a public space which will be located by the River Mersey.

It is believed that planning application for the work could be raised by August of this year. Hopefully these plans will be approved and if they are, it is believed that work on the interchange will be concluded by 2021 and then work on the flats will be completed by 2022.
