FIRMS IN FRAME FOR STOCKPORT DEVELOPMENT CONTRACT

Firms In Frame For Stockport Development Contract

It is easy to see why property developers are competitive when it comes to winning major contracts. There has been a lot of work undertaken in Stockport of late, but one of the most significant redevelopment projects in the town is up for grabs.

Four contractors are in the mix to be selected to carry out work at Stockport Interchange. The winning firm will not be chosen until early next year, but the names in the running, according to Place North West, are:

  • Morgan Sindall
  • Galliford Try
  • Vinci
  • Wilmott Dixon

With the Stockport Interchange project being an extensive one, it is easy to see why these companies are keen to win the contract. A 196-home apartment block is a major development, but the prominent position in the heart of town means the company will significantly benefit from awareness.

The project will join up the local area in Stockport

The project will also include a transport interchange which will be covered with a green roof. There will also be two areas of parkland, opening up to the Mersey river. Add in improved connectivity to the railway station, and this project is as impressive and as significant as many people have projected.

The development is also set to include the potential for Metrolink to come to Stockport, which will provide another boost to the local transport hub. One company will be selected to develop the entire project, but the work will be apportioned across two contracts. The residential work will cover one agreement while the interchange is included in another contract.

Stockport Council is seeking support from other partners for the project

Stockport Council is currently looking for a development partner for the residential aspect of the project, which is expected to cost close to £40m. The council expects this partner to secure funding and invest equity to ensure the residential scheme comes to fruition. There is a chance the development partner will be selected before the end of this year.

There will also be funding provided by Greater Manchester Combined Authority and the council. A total of £10m is expected to be placed into the scheme, and there is also Housing Infrastructure Fund support for the development.

The project will likely take around three years to complete. The lead designer on the project is BDP and WSP is the lead consultant.

With convenient transport links to the centre of Manchester, and significant developments taking place, Stockport is the ideal place to buy, live or invest.
