AFFORDABLE HOMES FOR STOCKPORT?

Affordable Homes For Stockport?

Mulbury is the developer behind these plans, and if they get their way, the former BT Warehouse could provide a home for many people. It was believed that the land would be used for a supermarket, but these plans stalled. Some people will not be happy with that, assuming you can never have too many shops to choose from, but there will be many people delighted with new homes being developed.

A lot of new homes could be built in Stockport

If the local planning committee gives the go-ahead for the development work, 87 homes are set to be introduced to Stockport. This development will consist of a mixture of apartments and two-storey homes. Currently, the plans dictate there will 59 two-storey houses and 28 apartments, and these will be located across two and three-storey blocks.

Funding for the scheme comes from Homes England, and the project will be delivered by Viaduct Housing Partnership while being owned by Stockport Homes. It is believed that 76 of the properties will be affordable homes, which is a great boost for the local area. Eleven homes will be placed up for private sale, but 13 properties will be made available for social rent, and 63 will be provided for shared ownership.

Plans for the site were put forward last year. Proposals put forward alongside Wythenshawe Community Housing Group would have brought 94 homes to the area, but this didn’t come to fruition.

No businesses have made a claim on the land

In the council development plan, the land was earmarked for business use. However, as it has been empty since March of 2016 and no business has stepped forward to use it for employment development, it could be argued that it would be best to allow the land to be used for property.

There is no denying there is a need for more property in Stockport, with affordable property essential. Therefore, the fact that optimistic noises are being made concerning this property development is good news for many people in the local area. We believe that Stockport has a lot to offer, but while the changes have been positive, it is essential that further developments are given the green light.

With convenient transport links to the centre of Manchester, and significant developments taking place, Stockport is the ideal place to buy, live or invest.
